ASUNAFO NORTH MUNICIPAL MARKS 69TH INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION

On the morning of March 6, 2026, the people of Asunafo North Municipal gathered in a colorful and patriotic ceremony to celebrate Ghana’s 69th Independence Day. The event, held at the Presbyterian School parade grounds in Goaso, brought together students, traditional leaders, security services, heads of departments, Municipal Chief Executive, Member of Parliament and community members to reflect on the nation’s journey to freedom and progress. The celebration began with a vibrant march-past by school children dressed in neatly pressed uniforms and waving the national colors of red, gold, and green. The rhythmic sounds of school bands filled the air as pupils proudly demonstrated their discipline and love for their country. Parents and residents cheered loudly, creating an atmosphere of unity and excitement. During the ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Joseph Akparibo addressed the gathering, reminding everyone of the sacrifices made by Ghana’s founding fathers, particularly Kwame Nkrumah, who led the struggle that resulted in the country’s independence from United Kingdom on March 6, 1957. He urged the youth to remain committed to education, patriotism, and community development. “Independence is not only about freedom,” he said. “It is about responsibility, hard work, and building a better future for generations yet unborn.” The Member of Parliament for Asunafo North, Hon. Haruna Mohammed during his speech entreated all to uphold commitment towards the growth and development of the country irrespective of our political difference. The Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Samuel Laar in his speech and presentation encouraged students at all levels to take their academic work seriously. Traditional leaders from from the Goaso Traditional council led by the Queen Mother, Nana Afia Serwaa also graced the event, offering words of encouragement and prayers for peace and development in the municipality. Security services including the police, fire service, and immigration service participated in the parade, showcasing discipline and dedication to national service. The theme for this year’s celebration emphasized building prosperity, restoring hope. Teachers and local leaders encouraged students to emulate the values of honesty, diligence, and national pride. At the end of the parade, awards were presented to schools that demonstrated exceptional performance during the march-past. The winning schools, best BECE candidates for 2024, 2025, best teacher in remote communities and MP's Quiz competition received trophies, laptops, fridges certificates, citations and plaques, drawing applause from the crowd. As the ceremony concluded, the national anthem echoed across the grounds, reminding everyone of the long journey Ghana has taken since independence. The celebration in Asunafo North Municipal served as a powerful reminder that the future of the nation lies in the hands of its people, especially the young generation. The day ended with smiles, music, and renewed hope as residents returned home inspired to contribute to the continued development of Ghana.
