AHAFO REGIONAL MINISTER SWEARS IN MDCE'S

Ahafo Regional Minister Mrs. Charity Gardiner has sworn into office six Municipal and District Chief Executives the President of the Republic, H.E, John Dramani Mahama nominated were confirmed by their respective Assemblies in the Ahafo Region The colourful event was held at the Zeniel Oasis Conference Hall in Goaso on 17th April, 2025.


It will be recalled that, the President by article 243 (1) of the 1992 constitution which gives him the power to nominate Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives nominated six (6) Chief Executives for approval by their respective Assemblies in the Ahafo Region. The Ahafo Regional Minister, Mrs Charity Gardiner, in collaboration with all the Assemblies went by the 1992 constitutional provision and the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act, 936) which states that nominated MDCEs should be confirmed or otherwise by their Assemblies by not less than two - thirds majority of members of the District Assembly present and voting at a meeting which should be done within twenty-one days. She admonished them to be innovative, unique and different in the way they do things saying “you should explore and adapt the practical use of ICT as a tool to improve efficiency of the services you deliver to the citizenry, improve efficiency in revenue collection , harness the tourism potentials in your Districts, enhance security, protect the environment and ensure prudent use of resources”. The Regional Minister further tasked them to always ensure peace, law and order in their Assemblies noting “all the plans and programs of government will come to naught if there is no peace”. She also told them to help develop a Region where everyone will have access to quality education, good health care, water and sanitation, decent housing, clean environment, electricity, good roads, productive employment among others. She finally reminded them that there are people on the touch line ready to take -over their positions if they fail.


She then administered the oaths of office, secrecy and loyalty to them after which they signed their appointment letters. She asked them to serve impartially and steadfastly. she continued that they should respect the chiefs and people in their various Assemblies adding that they are to serve them and not Lord over them. The Minister hoped that they will work hard to justify the confidence that the President and their Assemblies have reposed in them so as to achieve the aim of the government and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The District Chief Executive for Asutifi South, Hon. Benjamin Assabil Donkor on behalf of his colleagues Municipal and District Chief Executives thanked President H.E, John Dramani Mahama for the confidence reposed in them by nominating them. He further thanked the Regional Minister and the chiefs and Assembly members in their respective districts for endorsing their nominations. He promised that they were going to work hard to justify the confidence that the president and the people have reposed in them. President of the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs Barima Twereku Ampem II who spoke on behalf of the chiefs in the Region, thanked the President H.E, John Dramani Mahama for the trust he reposed in his nominees for which they had been sworn - in as Municipal and District Chief Executives. Nana further emphasized on fairness in service delivery and urged them to treat all Assembly Members equal because the outcome of their confirmation indicated that, irrespective of Assembly Members party affiliation they all voted 'Yes' on their behalf.


The colorful event came to a close successfully with MDCE'S poised to work hard to develop their various districts The gathering saw the presence of the Ahafo Regional Minister - Charity Gardiner, the Six MDCE'S in Ahafo, the aAhafo Chief Director, Mr Sampson Amoako Kwarteng, Municipal and District Co-ordinating Directors in Ahafo, Heads of the Security Agencies, Heads of Departments in the six districts, NDC party sympathisers, the Clergy, Imams, the Media, Nananom and all other invited guest.
